Charcoal Briquette Making Machine

Charcoal briquette making machine can compress charcoal powder (formed by high-temperature pyrolysis of carbon-containing materials like wood chips, coconut shells, straws, etc.) into solid charcoal briquettes. Equipped with various molds, this machine can produce charcoal briquettes of diverse shapes, such as cylindrical, hexagonal, and more. These charcoal briquettes are easy to ignite, store, and transport, making them widely applicable across various industries. Welcome to contact Beston Group to start your charcoal briquette manufacturing business.

Why Compress Charcoal into Briquettes?

You might question why bother processing biomass into charcoal briquettes instead of directly burning it for energy. However, direct burning poses several drawbacks, including air pollution, low energy efficiency, unpleasant odor, thick smoke, and unstable combustion. Beston charcoal briquette making machine effectively addresses these concerns. The produced charcoal briquettes offer many benefits, including:

High calorific value

High-temperature pyrolysis reduces most of the moisture and impurities in raw materials. Pressing into briquettes increases the density of the charcoal. These give charcoal briquettes a higher calorific value.

Easy to transport, store, and use

Charcoal briquettes boast a compact shape, uniform size, and low moisture content, making them easy to transport, store, and use. This facilitates convenience for consumers and retailers alike.

Cleaner burning

High-temperature pyrolysis removes most volatile substances and impurities from raw materials. As a result, charcoal briquette burns with less smoke, ash, and harmful emissions.

Versatility

Charcoal briquettes can be tailored to specific applications by adjusting additives or shapes. For example, give shisha charcoal better flavor, faster ignition, and longer burn time.

How to Make Charcoal Briquettes?

01 Biomass Pretreatment Process

In this step, biomass is dried and crushed. Moisture content should be reduced to below 15%, and particle size adjusted to 5–20 mm.

02 Biomass Pyrolysis Process

In a biomass pyrolysis plant, biomass is converted into biochar (typically small pieces or granules) inside the reactor. The reaction takes place at 380–450°C under low-oxygen and slight negative-pressure conditions.

  • Step 1- Dehydrate: Remove internal water;
  • Step 2- Demethylation: Remove hydrogen, methane, ethane, carbon monoxide and other mixed biogas;
  • Step 3- Volatile release: Remove tar, methanol, ethylene, and other substances.

03 Charcoal Briquettes Making Process

Biochar from pyrolysis (small pieces or granules) is processed into briquettes by a charcoal briquette machine under specific pressure. This requires the addition of water and a binder. The workflow includes:

  • Crushing or grinding biochar;
  • Mixing it with binder;
  • Pressing into briquettes;
  • Drying the finished product.

Knowing Components and Functions of Charcoal Briquette Machine

Crusher

It crushes the charoal powder into fine and uniform particles. This helps achieve tight bonding during briquetting, improving the density and strength of charcoal briquettes.

Buffer Silo

It is a place used to temporarily store the charcoal powder. This prevents blockages or shutdowns caused by speed differences between upstream and downstream machine.

Screw Conveyor

It connects various parts of the charcoal briquette making machine to transport materials. It is fully enclosed, significantly reducing dust.

Binder Feeder

It controls the amount of binder added to the charcoal powder. This enhances the bonding strength between charcoal powder particles to achieve optimal briquette quality.

Double Shaft Mixer

It uniformly mixes charcoal powder with additives such as binders and combustion promoter. This prevents the final charcoal briquettes from becoming loose or prone to cracking.

Wheel Mill

It performs a secondary rolling mixing on the mixed powder, making it more uniform and finely ground. This step increases the surface area of the material, facilitating better forming.

Briquette Press Machine

It presses the charcoal powder into the desired shapes, such as balls, hexagonal rods.

  • 01 Rod making machine
  • 02 Ball pressing machine
  • 03 Customized machine

Dryer

It removes excess moisture from the formed charcoal briquettes, drying and hardening them. This improves the strength and storage durability of the finished charcoal and prevents mold.

Factors Affecting Charcoal Briquette Formation

During the production process of charcoal briquettes, several factors play crucial roles in determining the quality and effectiveness of the formed briquettes. Users need to pay close attention to these factors to ensure optimal results.

Quantity of Added Binder

It’s important to strictly control the proportion of binder to achieve the desired cohesion in the briquettes. Too much binder can lead to difficulties in burning, while too little can result in poor binding and disintegration of the briquettes.

Particle Size of Charcoal Powder

If the particles are too large, the surface of the briquettes produced may turn out rough and uneven. Therefore, ensuring an appropriate particle size through proper grinding or milling processes is essential for achieving smooth and uniform briquettes.

Dry Humidity of Charcoal Powder

Optimal moisture content facilitates better binding of the particles during the compression process, resulting in well-formed briquettes. Conversely, excessive moisture can lead to difficulties in molding and drying.

FAQ

01. How much binder is needed in the charcoal briquetting process?

  • The proportion of plant-based binders added is about 10% – 13%.
  • The proportion of chemical binders added is about 3% – 5%. (According to different materials, the amount added is different.)

02. How much water is required in the charcoal briquetting process?

The water ratio ranges from 28% to 32%. (Molding sticks require a higher moisture content while pressing balls require less moisture.)

03. Can biomass be shaped first and then carbonized?

Sorry, it’s not possible. Because doing so would fail to meet the requirements for feeding.

04. How should the charcoal briquette machine be cleaned?

After each production cycle, the residual charcoal powder and added binder in the charcoal briquetting machine shall be cleaned in time. Lone-time residue may lead to uneven discharging of charcoal.
